About Me

My name is Alyssa and I am a sports addict. You don’t want to get too close to me when I’m watching sports because it could get ugly. I’ve got people who’ll attest to that, aka Super Bowl XLI (that was a dark time for me). I’m loud, foul-mouthed and trash-talky. Sports just brings out my competitive side, you’ll have to excuse me.

The first thing you need to know about me is that I am a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. What can I say, it’s not a passion it’s a disease. I’ve been through some pretty crappy times as a Bears fan (ala late 90s, early 00′s and Super Bowl XLI) but that’s part of it. I have seen some pretty memorable things, as well. Though I am sorry to say I wasn’t even alive when the Bears brought home the Lombardi trophy back in 1985.

One of the things you’ll see is that even when I’m talking about, say baseball, somehow I will manage to throw a Bears analogy somewhere in there. I can’t help it. Honestly.

My first live sporting event was when I went to a Detroit Red Wings game when I was 7 years old and I’ve been hooked ever since. While the other kids were begging their parents for cotton candy I was fixated with an unreal concentration on the game below. That’s when the sports bug got me. But  football is my real true love!  I have been a Bears fan since I was introduced to football–9 years now. I have been to the Chicago Bears Training Camp every year for the last 5 years (minus last year).

I am the biggest supporter of Rex Grossman, former Bears and current Texans Redskins quarterback. So if you have anything negative to say about him you best leave. But I’ve been defending him for 8 years now, dating back to his days at the Univ. of Florida. Never going to stop. He never really had a chance in Chicago and I will go to my grave swearing it.

Along with my love with sports I also have a passion for writing.  I’m heading into my Senior year this Fall 2011 at Florida Atlantic University. I’m majoring in Mass Communications/Journalism and will be going into the Sports Journalism field.  My ultimate dream is to write for the Chicago Bears (big long shot I know but I’ll always try for it).

I am a sports reporter and correspondent for FAUOwlAccess.com, one of the top FAU sports sites out there. I cover football, basketball and baseball. Go Owls!

I freelance for The Hometown News, a local paper on the east coast of Florida. I am looking to bring the sports section back because that’s my forte. I cover high school football, basketball, baseball and Mets Spring Training for the paper.

Whenever I get free time, which is rare, I put together a magazine about the Chicago Bears called Bears Beat. It started as a single page newsletter some seven years ago.

I am a proud member of Aerys Sports–an all-women led sports network covering every team out there. I cover the Detroit Red Wings (HockeytownBeat.com) and Florida Atlantic University Athletics (FlyLikeAnOwl.com).

I find it a blessing that I am working towards a career that I am so passionate about that at the end of the day it’s not really work at all!

So look for me one day!

  1. Hi Alyssa:

I read the above article and was very impressed with your pasiion for sports, however, I am writing to you in an attempt to try and get Mets tickets for a wheelchair bound client of mine. It is the only thing he likes to watch and attend whenever someone can buy him a ticket, as his case manager I told him I would reach out on his behalf and see If I could rustle up a pair of tickets for him and his companion. Do you think you can help? or at least point me in the right direction, Thanks Christine.
